a day at the mountain
so we finally drove down at 8pm friday night last week after having dinner at snowplanet. but
before that, karl thought it would be a great idea to see what snowplanet’s "pimp my pad" competition was all about. after all the prizes were worth up to $20,000, or so what it said on their site. the catch was, you had to be drinking to enter and it was just one big prize consisting of a home theatre and other technological fanzies. wasnt interested, and besides we were going to be driving a long way in the darkness. they were also going to have a staff skiing/snowboarding competition but that wasnt happening until 9pm. so off we went… taking turns driving through thick fog all the way from auckland and getting to turangi just before midnight. we were just so tired and couldnt wait to hit the sack for an early morning wake up. we stayed with my step-grandparents, who are very generous.
6:30 am. the alarm went off. i was already awake even before the alarm sounded. i think i was a little bit excited to see how my skills have improved since the time (last year) we were up the mountain. i was still too lazy to get up though because it was so cold. got up eventually after the room was warmed up by the small electric heater and got ready to go. so we hurried along, trying not to make any significant noises cuz my grandparents were still asleep and we didnt want to wake them up.
… the day just started great. once the fog lifted up, there was no cloud in the sky in the surrounding area. had a great warm day up the mountain. here are some photos taken on the weekend.
unfortunately we didnt have time to take photos of ourselves snowboarding in action. we were just having so much fun getting up to speed and being able to do it properly this time… unlike last year when we were still newbies. we can actually do it now yay! lol. more photos of the scenery will be posted later on. i still need to get it off the camera.
